The Honey Dance is a song that stems from a tune that came to me in a dream. I rolled over in my half-sleep and sang the melody into my mobile phone so I wouldn't forget it. I'm glad I did so, because it turned into one of the songs I'm most proud to have written.
You could say that I started recording this song back in 2002, as that is when I recorded the insect noises, at a beautiful, peaceful temple, just outside Chiang Mai, in Thailand.
lyrics
The ewe on her knees through no supplication,
For nought but the ease of application,
No platitudes would cross her mind,
All that’s to choose is to graze or feed her sweetheart.
From where we stand now, there’s no sideways steps,
No easy way out, just up or down,
The seed was sown and brought to me,
A new love grown, comes courtesy a weak heart.
The prevalence of need that harboured such doubts,
That all of the want is equal to nowt,
As history repeated, the needy becomes the needed,
Every grey turns to blue,
And the bees do their honey dance toward you.
I’ll make no promise I cannot see through,
But when your ship comes in, I’ll be waiting for you,
The guilt it binds you, and fetters your heart,
While love as it finds you can blow you apart from within.
Sometimes you don’t know what to do with the joy,
And when you wake up, you don’t stop dreaming.
